Everyone deals with stress. It’s when that stress grows out of control and begins to overturn our lives that we run into problems. It seems more and more people are dealing with chronic, pervasive stress today than ever before. When left unchecked, stress can quickly become toxic, draining our energy, aging us faster, and in some cases, making us chronically ill.
Today on The Dhru Purohit Podcast, Dhru sits down with Dr. Elissa Epel to discuss how we can break free from the bonds of chronic stress. They share practical strategies for coping with stress when things go wrong (which they inevitably will), the importance of social support, spending time in nature, and cultivating true, restorative practices.
Dr. Epel is an internationally renowned health psychologist who focuses on how to live well and thrive with existential stress, despite the challenges we face personally and globally. She is a professor at UCSF and the director of UCSF’s Aging, Metabolism, and Emotion Center. She is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and past president of the Academy of Behavioral Medicine and serves on scientific advisory committees for the National Institutes of Health. She has received awards from Stanford University, the Society of Behavioral Medicine, and the American Psychological Association.
